Crosswire.online: compare news headlines across outlets
Table of Contents
We are excited to introduce Crosswire.online, an ultra-minimalist news headline comparison tool that lets you see how the top digital media outlets frame the same stories differently.
The Concept
Crosswire.online aggregates headlines from major news outlets and presents them side-by-side in a clean, distraction-free interface. Instead of visiting a dozen news websites, you get all the top headlines on a single page — making editorial framing differences immediately visible.
What It Covers
Currently focused on Spain, Crosswire tracks 13+ major outlets including El País, El Mundo, ABC, La Vanguardia, elDiario.es, Expansión, El Periódico, RTVE, 20 Minutos, El Confidencial, La Razón, Público, and laSexta. Multi-country support is built into the architecture.
Technical Highlights
- Serverless architecture on AWS — Lambda functions scrape and aggregate headlines, DynamoDB stores them, CloudFront + S3 serve the frontend
- Progressive Web App — works on any device with a browser, no install needed
- Minimalist UX — relaxed and compact display modes, favourites, and Prev/Next navigation for browsing headline history
- Near-zero operational costs — fully serverless with costs scaling proportionally to usage
Why It Matters
Media literacy starts with seeing the full picture. By comparing how different outlets headline the same events, readers can better understand editorial choices and biases.
